Wow, it's been a month and I haven't posted.  That shows how incredibly busy it's been.

Well I had the meeting with parents, and then Meet the Teacher.  Both went well.  I did have 3 parents say NO for their children, but that's not surprising.  It's not for everyone.  And I wouldn't want anyone in my class whose parents are not supportive.

I have an incredible class.  Most are very independent, smart and interested in school.  This makes for delightful teaching, I'll tell you.  I do have a couple of boys on medication, which is also not unusual.  The day pretty much flies by.

More on the individuals in my class later.  It's been a wild ride so far.  Glad I didn't miss it!

Selling it

Tomorrow I meet with parents to SELL this whole multiage thing.  It's not worrying me.  My idea is to just sell myself.  Surely if they believe in me they will agree with my classroom  approach.  And usually parents like me.  We'll soon see....If even one says no I will be secretly devastated.

What's in a name?

My wonderful principal (she really is wonderful) wants a catchy name for my class.  Her previous school had the name "Primary Experience" for their multiage class which included kindergarten.  I poo pooed that.  Already taken.  So she  suggested Learning Adventures.  I guess she will be referring to it as that when at school and with parents.  Ok.  I don't have anything better so wa-lah.  Learning Adventures is our name!  I'm sure both will happen so it will be an appropriate name.

Here I go!

Entering the exciting world of blogging and multiage ed at the same time!!

I looked around for info about teaching 2 grades at once...there wasn't much out there.  So I'm creating something that I can learn from maybe help someone else out there.

So much like the time I jumped off a cliff in Mexico blindly with my Raybans in my hand with all the confidence in the world that I would hang on to them (not)...

Welcome to my blog!

I teach 1st and 2nd grade in Florida and due to class size reduction and personal beliefs, multiage is my thang this year. I'm going to journal the successes and frustrations mostly for myself and see what comes out of it!
